“What makes you happy?” asked one of my LinkedIn mentors during our ambush job interview session in February 2021.
This simple question got me thinking and I was quiet for a while to get back to my very core. A few moments later, I answered, “I am happy when I get the chance to tell stories to people…be a part of the solution to a certain problem…. to do the things I really want… and those that I am passionate about.
For the last eight weeks, I’ve been busy in my corporate life working with the organisation. Every day is different. Never a dull moment. That ‘fast-paced environment setting’ on the job listing was true and I have seen it unfold in front of me.
My days be like in between meetings, photoshoots, interviews, pieces of training, media coverage, training – wait, did I just say training again? I may be in just under three months, but the experience, so far, felt as if I’ve been with the organisation for a long time now.
And now I am here, enjoying my time as I immerse myself in my 9-to-5 job. The room for growth is wide and open as I continue learning from my colleagues and encounters both with the highbrows and the everyday joes - helping people in ways I can, keeping faith in God, and extending my reach for those who want a seat at the table.
I am happy and my heart is full. I remember telling myself five, six years ago – I want to be a member of a team. For the first part of my career, I have worked independently — with little to no colleagues. A lone employee. But wishes do really come true. God let me undergo a long period of waiting to be alone so I can appreciate and fully embrace the team that I have now.

I owe this piece of writing to myself. Thank you for not giving up. Thank you for keeping pushing forward. Thank you for showing up every day even if you don’t feel like it. Thank you for believing in yourself, especially when no one believes in you. Thank you for not listening to the demons inside your head because you are capable. You are exactly where you need to be and you are made for such a time like this. Always believe in yourself. Always.
What about you, what makes you happy?
